Newton's Cannon

Using a cannon ball fired from the top of a hypothetical mountain Isaac Newton was able to show how orbits result from a fine balance between the pull of gravity and the cannonball's speed. Play with the animation, varying the cannonballl's initial speed with the slider.

Use the ENTER key or touch/click the button to fire the cannon. Use the slider to set the cannonball's initial speed.
